Save On Gas

 Stretch That DOLLAR  Comments Off
Mar 232012

I found a article that shows Imports of oil have peaked in 2005 with the trend of imports to keep falling over the next decade.
With production increases and cars getting greater Miles Per Gallon…This can a be a long term positive trend for the American consumer.
The importance of a strong energy policy in this election cycle is so very important..Without a strong domestic energy policy this country can fall into a lot of trouble.
It seems that the current leaders in charge can’t get their act together..May I suggest we the people take a good hard look at this issue before we vote this fall. Not just the price of gasoline is at risk but all energy which runs this country is on the line.
On top and most of all we should conserve our use of energy for a few reasons.Makes it more affordable if everyone uses less..
Other reasons to save on gasoline is not only buy driving less they actual cost of fuel but also mantinance such as brakes and tires(made from oil).
Not that I’m the “Greenest Person In the World” but it dosen’t hurt to help the environment at the same time…

One of the hardest things about being Frugal is  understanding the definition of Value.
It is actually a battle from wanting to be totally “cheap” too just spending way to much for what you need.
These decisions range from a paper towel purchase to the buying of a house or car and everything in between.
If You are truly Frugal the tendency might to buy the item with the lowest cost period..Many a times this way of thinking cost much more over a longer period of time.
Depending on what the purchase is many factors can be in play..The answer to the purchase should be the over-all VALUE.
What is Value?Might be how long something is going to last or can the same thing be accomplished for less money.Sometimes it is about saving time?Do I need or do I want the item or service? More can be less and sometimes less can be more..I find this little ditty to true a lot of the time..Also consideration for the “hidden” cost and/or matinence cost involved.
Lets take a automobile for example…People can be very passionate about what they drive. How important is it to drive a car you can’t afford to impress people that don’t really care? But not one car can or will fit all people…One item that gets over looked is the cost to insure a certain type of car.Example I bought a Toyota new in 2004 and the rate to insure it was about double to what I was paying.
It is a great auto and one of the best overall values I think We ever found.$17,000 for probably one of our best overValues..Great on gas ,relibility, long lasting and still looks fairly new.Plus held it’s Book Value on top of that….
Value is found in the grocery store..One of my Twitter Friends got a job for a large food proccessing company..She said that the alot of the store names are made in the same factory as the name brand…The only difference is that you pay less .Use coupons online or from your mail or news paper when you can this gives the same product for less..
Sometimes it is temping to buy a item that appears to JUNK when it is 10 cents on the dollar…The temptation can be way to hard to handle…But I often find myself disappointed when the purchase fails…Sometimes luck is on my side..But the price for wanting to be “Cheap” instead of Frugal can Be very Painful my friends..

Save On Gas

 Save On Gas  Comments Off

If you want to save on gas you might be tempted to buy that long promised gadget found on the Internet promising to boost your gas mileage by 25 -60%… Well I’m here to say no such thing works….Just people trying to get “Your” hard earned money.

Like the time a couple of years ago A friend of mine bought the magic magnets went on the fuel lines…He called me up and was telling me(MrFrugalFrank) how much he was saving.Since we drive very similar trucks I ask what his mileage was before the devise was installed? He told me that he never really checked…How long was he running this?He said about 30 miles or so….I then said call me and let me know when he refilled…Well I called him a few weeks later and confirmed what I already knew…His MPG was just about the same range as mine 14 MPG……

Wow this HHO sounds great? The truth be told it takes 15% more energy to turn water into Hydrogen then the energy put out……

See the thing is that a good marketeer can make anything sound reasonable. When someone is making money on a product or service be a little leery at the very least. If it sounds to good to true than it probably is..

Save gas by driving less and smarter is the best way…When buying a “new” car try to get the one that gets the best fuel mileage you can afford…

One thing that upsets me is the Media always putting down “Electric Auto’s”…Saying that the American public doesn’t want them..I talk to all kinds of people and a lot would like to have a electric car….Right now the travel range isn’t that good…50-60 miles on the Chevy Volt while Honda is coming out this year with a car that is suppose have a range 125 miles….I’m looking to buy when a range of 250 mile or more……I believe a lot of new technology is just a few years away…

We need to free this nation from the chains to the Middle East….Take a little to contribute to this cause which is America The Great….We can Rebuild This Nation One Dime At A Time….

                                                       God Bless,  Mr Frugal Frank

Saving money on almost every purchase? Is it possible or maybe even legal?

Listening to the radio the other day I heard of a “New” Debit card from PerkStreet that pays 2% on all purchaseswhen the card is used in the credit mode,,,It isn’t a credit card but a debit card…You can fund it from a existing bank account or even mail money to them…Good new this a bank within the United States…..
Another bonus is every month they give a 5% back at certian selected stores(might be limited to certian items)…This changes each month… They do Limit $5000 per year in bonus purchases….
To say the least I’m giving it a try here  2% dosen’t sound like much but if you spend $1000 on food, gas, and what over needs you have in a month the savings would be at $20 per month or $240 a year…
I like to think of this as a tool that stretches that old dollar as far as I can….Here is a example of how I think….I need a lawn mower say..Well I shop around(many online) then once a got my selection down to what a want or need when out I’ll stop and take a look to make sure it is what I want..(never just make a special trip)
Now I ‘m ready to buy_____ I need a plan….I ask around and talk to other Frugal people to find coupons and such….For example I decided Lowes(or HomeDepot)  had the best value for me….Say a friend gave me 10% off Lowes Coupon(I can get HomeDepot to take it also)…Say the mower is $500……Then I’ll make sure I have $500 in my PerkStreet account(PerkStreet.com)   then head to one of my local grocery stores that give fuel perks for buying gifft card…Also many times a year you can get double perks…..
For every $50 you spend you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas up to 30(some places 15)…..My favorite one gives 30 gallon limit….I always buy card I use when doubled(20 cents off for every $50 spent)
So on a $500 purchase would give me $2.00 towards my next gasoline fill-up…$2.00 x 30= $60.00 ….then since I used my Perksstreet card that is $10 more….Don’t forget my 10% off coupon…..
Lets see how much the $500 mower is now…..$500-10%= $450   then subtract  $60 in gasoline savings(I only count things that I need not want) now it is down to $390…..Least we not forget the  PerkStreet savings….$10       making the final price $380 plus any taxes…
This is the same mower someone just paid full price @ $500 and probably someone else paid $500 after me…….No differance in quaitity….The only thing is I have a extra $120 in my families pocket….
You Too can do the same simple things….Just takes a little effort and also can be funn at the sametime..
